What ingredients do I need?

With a few simple steps, a thin layer of your favorite spread, and more topping options than you can think of—this quick snack will soon be your favorite.

Peanut Butter Banana Sushi Ingredients

  • 1 taco-size flour tortilla
  • 1 ripe but firm banana, peeled
  • 3 tablespoons peanut butter, divided
  • 1/2 cup chopped peanuts

Strawberries and Cream Banana Sushi Ingredients

  • 1 taco-size flour tortilla
  • 1 ripe but firm banana, peeled
  • 3 tablespoons softened cream cheese, divided
  • 2 strawberries, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons crushed freeze-dried strawberries

Chocolate Coconut Banana Sushi Ingredients

  • 1 taco-size flour tortilla
  • 1 ripe but firm banana, peeled
  • 3 tablespoons Nutella, divided
  • 2 tablespoons shredded coconut flakes

How to make banana sushi

The great thing about this fun recipe is how quickly it comes together! In just a few minutes, you have a delicious snack that knocks a plain ol’ banana out of the park.

Collage of six easy steps to make banana sushi.
  1. Lay out one tortilla, and spread two tablespoons of peanut butter, cream cheese, or Nutella evenly over the surface.
  2. Place a peeled banana at the end of the tortilla.
  3. Roll the banana in the tortilla snugly. Place the tortilla seam-side-down on the cutting board.
  4. Spread the remaining tablespoon of peanut butter, cream cheese, or Nutella over the top of the tortilla roll.
  5. Sprinkle chopped peanuts, freeze-dried strawberries, or shredded coconut on top.
  6. Slice into 1-inch slices.

Variations on banana sushi

We came up with three ways to make banana sushi, but the possibilities are endless! Here are a few other ingredients to mix and match.

  • Try almond butter or any other kind of nut butter or seed butter as the spread.
  • The more toppings, the better! Try chocolate chips, chia seeds, sprinkles, or even melted chocolate.

This is your banana sushi party, we’re just happy to be invited.

Do I have to use chopsticks?

No, but it sure is fun! Sushi is traditionally finger food, so feel free to skip the chopsticks and dive right in.

Why is my roll-up falling apart?

It could be falling apart because there isn’t enough nut butter, Nutella, or cream cheese! Make sure you use a good amount of spread over the entire tortilla and roll tightly to keep everything together.

Ingredients

Peanut Butter Banana Sushi

  • 1 taco-size flour tortilla (gluten-free tortillas work great, too!)
  • 1 ripe but firm banana, peeled
  • 3 tablespoons peanut butter, divided
  • 1/2 cup chopped peanuts

Strawberries and Cream Banana Sushi

  • 1 taco-size flour tortilla (gluten-free tortillas work great, too!)
  • 1 ripe but firm banana, peeled
  • 3 tablespoons softened cream cheese, divided
  • 2 strawberries, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons crushed freeze-dried strawberries

Chocolate Coconut Banana Sushi

  • 1 taco-size flour tortilla (gluten-free tortillas work great, too!)
  • 1 ripe but firm banana, peeled
  • 3 tablespoons Nutella, divided
  • 2 tablespoons shredded coconut

Instructions

  1. Lay one of the tortillas flat on a cutting board, and spread 2 tablespoons of the peanut butter, cream cheese, or Nutella evenly over the top.
  2. Place the banana at the end of the tortilla. If the banana is very curved, you might need to straighten it out a bit (don’t worry if it cracks some).
  3. Roll the banana in the tortilla snugly—like you are rolling someone up snug in a rug! Place the tortilla seam-side-down onto the cutting board.
  4. Take the remaining tablespoon of peanut butter, cream cheese, or Nutella, and spread it evenly over the top of the tortilla roll. Sprinkle top of roll with chopped peanuts, freeze-dried strawberries, or shredded coconut.
  5. Slice the roll into 1-inch sushi rolls. Plate with chopsticks for added fun!
