Tropical Paradise Breakfast Cure

How about a trip to a tropical paradise? Introducing our newest flavor, a hydrating, heat-regulating recipe. Tropical Paradise Breakfast Cure keeps the metabolism-boosting benefits of warm food in your belly. At the same time, cooling pineapple and mango help you beat the heat. This recipe add another vegan, gluten-free flavor made with organic ingredients to the Breakfast Cure menu.

To create this recipe, we had to locate some deep and varied sources of flavor. Introducing some brand new players in the Breakfast Cure morning ensemble. We are super excited to share our new ingredients with you because Burlap and Barrel herbs and spices are special.

Enter our favorite new player, organic black limes, grown in Alta Verapaz, Guatemala. These limes are dried in the sun until they turn black, then ground into a powder on the spot. The taste is as surprising as it is delightful. Described as “bright citrus, garden herbs, and tanned leather,” black lime helps create that Tropical Paradise taste sensation.

The superb quality of the Buffalo Ginger and Cloud Forest Cardamom imbues each bite with a bounty of flavor. Just a kiss of Silk Chili adds the perfect zest as the hint of star anise harmonizes the whole flavorful bunch into one delightful bite. Welcome to the warm, comfort of breakfast that feels like a hug,

As Public Benefit Corporation, Burlap and Barrel partners directly with smallholder farmers to source spices that have never been available in the US before and help improve the livelihoods of their partner farmers. Check out more of the inspiring story here.

Nutrient Highlight

According to Organic Facts, “Star anise contains a high level of antioxidants, such as linalool, quercetin, thymol, terpineol, caffeic acid, anethole, kaemferol, and coumaric acid, as well as a significant amount of iron. Also contained in star anise are smaller amounts of vitamin C, calcium, potassium, and magnesium. The other active compounds and organic acids, such as shikimic acid, fats, and dietary fiber, also provide star anise with a few extra health benefits. The calorie count in star anise is also quite low, with only 23 calories in 1 tablespoon of whole star anise fruit.

John Staughton’s article notes further that the “most notable health benefits of star anise may include its probable ability to lower the risk of cancer, promote healthy skin, prevent fungal infections, support respiratory health, stimulate the immune system, optimize digestion, boost circulation, and aid sleep.”
