Beer Biscuits - The Southern Lady Cooks

This recipe for Beer Biscuits is fun to make and the yeast in the beer makes the biscuits rise up. I cut these out with a square cookie cutter. They are light and fluffy and would be wonderful for a brunch with country ham or serve them with your favorite jams and jellies. They are great for breakfast or even with a meal.

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 6 tablespoons butter melted (save about 1 tablespoon to brush tops of biscuits)
  • 1 cup beer
  • Whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, sugar and salt until well mixed. Add melted butter and beer. Mix together with a spoon and turn out on a floured surface.

  • I just patted the dough out with my hands but you could roll it out. Cut out biscuits. You can use whatever size cutter you like.

  • Spray a baking sheet with cooking spray and place biscuits on sheet touching each other. Bake in preheated 375 degree oven for about 20 minutes.

  • Remove and brush tops with the saved tablespoon of melted butter and place under broiler for a few minutes.

  • I got 15 biscuits with the small square cutter.

  • Using a regular size biscuit cutter you would probably get around 8 to 10
