In June of this year, we gathered as a family and community to mark the one year anniversary of Tony Cappellano’s passing. Tony was the head and heart of the Boom Breakfast family and continues to be an inspiration to us all as we carry on in his memory.

For those who were lucky to know him…

… they knew how warm and welcoming he was, how much he cared for his family, his employees and community, and how dedicated and passionate he was about this business.

There are many family members behind the scenes and right at your table. Get to know them here and find out what they recommend from the menu!

A hands on leader

Tony opened the first Boom Breakfast location in 2003 at College Street in Toronto but his experience in the restaurant industry began much before that. From 1980 – 1981, Tony was the proprietor of Sweet Dreams Café: a successful Italian deli and dessert eatery.

He later worked at Movenpick Restaurants where he was instrumental in guiding operations. Tony even had a brief stint in the late 1990’s in the Cayman Islands! And of course, he met his love and life partner, Muffy, at the Mars Uptown diner in Toronto. You can read the full timeline of Tony’s impressive career here.

But boom was his baby…

Over the years Tony grew the Boom brand to include locations at St. Clair, Eglinton, and Vaughan. He was involved in every aspect of the business from clearing tables to welcoming guests and running the kitchen. Today, Tony’s sons James and Jeffrey Cappellano, are key members of the family business. You can meet them here

It takes a team

It’s not just immediate family members, though. There are cousins, aunts, sisters — it goes on! The Boom family is truly an extension of the brand. Meet them here

Tony

did you know?

Many staff who went on to open their own restaurants credit Tony with their exceptional experience. Aside from his big heart Tony was famous for “the greatest cappuccino” you ever had. Why not try one today?
